Bowling Green's History
The area now called Bowling Green was first settled in 1832, became a town in 1855, and was officially recognized as a city in 1901. When oil was discovered in the town in the late 19th century, the population expanded rapidly. Many large homes were built in the city around this time, and they can still be seen in the downtown area today. Later, the automobile industry helped sustain Bowling Green's economy.
